“This year, I’m 45 years old. So before I decided to study at BINUS, I had talked to myself many times about whether I could finish this class because of my age. So after some thinking, I decided to study at BINUS,” ungkap Qiwei.
“I’d like to make friends with them because if you don’t maintain communication, you won’t be able to make friends. But it’s not easy to communicate.”

Wang Qiwei’s Global Classroom Experience with BINUS Master of Management
Wang Qiwei, a 45-year-old expatriate from China, believes that there’s no such thing as being too late to learn. As a result, he decided to continue his studies in the Master of Management program at BINUS Business School.
He enrolled in the Professional Business Management concentration to deepen his management insight while strengthening his professional competencies, comparable in scope to an MBA and aligned with the rigor of a Master of Management (MM).
That same spirit encouraged him to overcome his fear of limitations, particularly those arising from language and cultural differences. This courage paid off with a proud achievement when Qiwei officially graduated at BINUS University’s 73rd Commencement Ceremony.
Beginning with Professional Experience in Indonesia
Wang Qiwei works in corporate management at the Indonesian branch of a Chinese company. Over three years of building his career in Indonesia, he’s gained a wealth of valuable professional experience, ranging from strategic decision-making and team management to organizational communication that had to be adapted to the local context.
From this experience, Qiwei realized that professional exposure alone was not enough. It needed to be balanced with a stronger managerial foundation that was relevant to the dynamics of global business. This realization ultimately prompted him to pursue a Master of Management (MM) program.
A Major Decision to Continue Studying at BINUS University
For Qiwei, returning to university was not an easy decision. At 45, he often doubted his ability to complete a postgraduate program. These doubts surfaced repeatedly before he finally convinced himself that pursuing a master’s degree, whether an MBA-equivalent or a Master of Management, was a long-term investment that transcends age.
“This year, I’m 45 years old. So, before I decided to study at BINUS, I had talked to myself many times about whether I could finish this class given my age. So after some thinking, I decided to study at BINUS,” Qiwei shared.
Qiwei ultimately chose the Professional Business Management Program in the Master of Management at BINUS Business School. This program is designed specifically for professionals actively pursuing managerial-level careers.
His decision was further reinforced by BINUS University’s reputation as an internationally recognized higher education institution that emphasizes an applied curriculum, rather than merely theoretical concepts, an approach often associated with high-quality MBA and MM programs.
BINUS Business School Master of Management as a Space for Professional Growth
One of the most memorable aspects of Qiwei’s postgraduate journey at BINUS Business School was the learning methodology, which differed significantly from his past academic experiences. Classroom sessions did not focus solely on theory; they were enriched with case studies, active discussions, and even the exchange of professional experiences among students.
Notably, the Professional Business Management Program within the Master of Management (MM) at BINUS Business School offers an inclusive learning environment. Students from diverse age groups, professions, and cultural backgrounds come together in a single learning ecosystem.
Beyond that, students are encouraged to share perspectives shaped by their respective backgrounds. Through this approach, Qiwei found that the course material became easier to understand and more readily applicable in professional settings, similar to the practical orientation expected from an MBA or Master of Management program.
A Multicultural Environment That Broadens Perspectives
The multicultural classroom environment further enriched Qiwei’s MM study experience. He noted that students in the Master of Management program at BINUS Business School come from various countries, including Australia, Jordan, and South Korea. This diversity created a dynamic discussion space filled with global perspectives.
Moreover, Qiwei believes that building cross-cultural communication is a crucial part of the learning process. “I’d like to make friends with them because if you don’t maintain communication, you won’t be able to make friends. But it’s not easy to communicate.”
To overcome these challenges, Qiwei worked hard to build close relationships with his classmates. They often spent time together outside of class, having dinner, sharing stories about family life, and exchanging experiences of living in Indonesia. He even took the opportunity to explore different regions of Indonesia to experience the country’s natural beauty and cultural diversity firsthand.
Today, the doubts once felt by Wang Qiwei have been fully resolved. He completed the Master of Management (MM) program at BINUS Business School and was among the graduates at BINUS University’s 73rd Commencement. Qiwei’s journey stands as proof that a strong determination to grow and learn can transcend age and cultural boundaries.

During his postgraduate studies at BINUS University, he developed a broader, more global mindset, particularly in confronting professional challenges in management. It’s an outcome that reflects the true value of a Master of Management or MBA-level education.
