Jurusan Manajemen BINUS Antar Westin Lulus Summa Cumlaude

BINUS Management Program Led Westin Chandra to Summa Cum Laude Honors

Choosing a college major is a major decision that requires careful consideration. This process was experienced by one graduate of the BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL Management Program, Westin Chandra, when he had to determine his undergraduate (S1) study path. His decision to study at BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL ultimately led him to graduate Summa Cum Laude with a GPA of 3.98 at BINUS University’s 73rd Commencement.

However, behind that nearly perfect number, Westin gained many meaningful experiences. He became more confident in exploring various opportunities, more active in the classroom, and better prepared to face the professional world. In fact, Westin secured a permanent job while still a student.

Management Major: Flexible and Full of Opportunities

Many prospective students consider the Management major to be too “general.” According to Westin, however, that is precisely its strength and one of his main reasons for choosing the Management Program at BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL.

From Westin’s perspective, the Management major offers broad and flexible knowledge. During his undergraduate studies at BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL, he learned a wide range of courses relevant to business, organizations, and leadership.

This diversity provided him with a comprehensive understanding of how a company operates, from operational aspects to strategic decision-making. Such a foundation is also highly relevant for graduates who later wish to pursue advanced studies, such as an MBA, a Master of Management, or MM (Master of Management).

Westin’s learning experience did not stop at general topics. He was also allowed to explore his specific interests in greater depth, particularly in Human Capital and the Digital Workplace.

This opportunity significantly broadened his insights into human resource management and digital transformation, two critical elements highly relevant in today’s professional environment and in further academic paths, such as an MBA or Master of Management (MM).

A Real Bridge to the Professional World through the Enrichment Program

When asked about his most memorable experience during his studies in the BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL Management Program, Westin pointed to his involvement in the Enrichment Program. BINUS University designed this program to prepare students for the professional world through various available pathways.

Westin chose the internship track at PT Sayap Mas Utama (Wings Group), a well-known company that produces a wide range of household consumer goods in Indonesia. There, he directly experienced the dynamics of working in a large corporation, the pace of work, and the demands of professionalism.

“The Enrichment Program is incredibly helpful, especially if you can get an [internship] placement that matches your interests. It’s like throwing students straight into the real world of work. Students who may not yet be fully mature can experience what the professional world is really like,” Westin explained.

Beyond that, the internship experience became a key turning point in shaping Westin’s career direction. It strengthened his confidence in the field he wanted to pursue. His dedication paid off when he was appointed as a full-time employee at Wings Group, the same company where he had interned and grown. This practical exposure is also valuable preparation for those aiming to advance their careers or pursue an MBA or Master of Management (MM).

Activeness and Curiosity as the Keys to Graduating Summa Cum Laude

Westin successfully concluded his academic journey in the BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL Management Program with outstanding achievement. He graduated with a GPA of 3.98, earning the Summa Cum Laude distinction at BINUS University’s 73rd Commencement. Behind this achievement were many contributing factors that shaped his success.

For Westin, studying diligently alone was not enough to achieve a high GPA. Based on his experience, being active in class also played a crucial role in his academic journey. He encouraged students to engage fully in the learning process by asking questions, participating in discussions, and showing genuine interest in their courses.

“Show [the lecturers] that you are curious or genuinely interested in the course. That alone becomes a strong added value in the eyes of lecturers,” Westin advised. He also emphasized the importance of building good communication with lecturers, both inside and outside the classroom. This approach allows lecturers to understand their students better while opening opportunities for deeper learning.

Many people see the Management major as a “general” field of study. However, Westin Chandra’s story demonstrates that it can serve as a strong foundation when utilized to its fullest potential. That is exactly what he did throughout his undergraduate studies in the BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL Management Program.

Westin was not only active in classroom learning, but also brave enough to explore his interests and gain real-world experience through the Enrichment Program. As a result, he graduated Summa Cum Laude at BINUS University’s 73rd Commencement and even secured a job at one of Indonesia’s leading private companies.

Westin’s journey shows that the college years can be the best time to prepare for the future, whether in the professional world or in further studies such as an MBA or Master of Management (MM).
