“Rising from the Rubble: Empowering Through Education After Disaster”
On March 16, 2023, at Warung Kondang in Cianjur, West Java, the community gathered amidst the remnants of a devastating earthquake. Amidst the rubble stood Kania, a lecturer from Binus University, her resolve unshaken. Responding to the urgent need for support, Kania mobilized resources and volunteers to aid the affected children. This is the story of how Kania, alongside the organization GEKRAFS JABAR, transformed tragedy into an opportunity for growth and resilience through education.
The Aims of the Training:
The primary aim of the training led by Kania and supported by GEKRAFS JABAR was to provide immediate relief and assistance to the children affected by the earthquake. Through makeshift classrooms and innovative teaching methods, Kania sought to create a safe and nurturing environment where the children could continue their education despite the challenging circumstances. Additionally, the training aimed to integrate lessons on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into the curriculum, empowering the students to become agents of positive change in their community.
The Results of the Training:
Despite the adversity they faced, the training led by Kania yielded remarkable results. The makeshift classrooms became vibrant hubs of learning, filled with the laughter and enthusiasm of the students. Through storytelling, hands-on activities, and group discussions, the children not only absorbed the academic lessons but also developed a deep understanding of the importance of environmental sustainability, poverty eradication, and access to education and healthcare. The training fostered a sense of hope and resilience in the students, empowering them to envision a brighter future for themselves and their community.
The Conclusions of the Training:
In conclusion, the training led by Kania and supported by GEKRAFS JABAR exemplifies the transformative power of education in times of crisis. By providing immediate relief and integrating lessons on SDGs into the curriculum, Kania and her team not only helped the children cope with the aftermath of the earthquake but also instilled in them a sense of agency and purpose. As the community continues to rebuild, the lessons learned from this training will serve as a foundation for long-term sustainable development and resilience.
