Assed Lusak’s Dissertation Defense for Doctor of Research in Management

The promovendus dissertation defense of Assed Lusak from the Doctor of Research in Management program of BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL was held on Monday, 31 August 2020, at the Anggrek campus of Bina Nusantara University. Mr. Assed Lusak defended his dissertation titled ‘THE SURVIVAL DETERMINANTS OF SMALL BUSINESS IN FOOD AND BEVERAGE SERVICE IN INDONESIA’S TOP CULINARY CITIES’ in front of the chairman of the assembly and the examiners as well as the promoters who supported the open session.

In his dissertation, Mr. Assed Lusak focused on the ratio of the continuity of running small businesses in Indonesia, which survive with an average of only 10%, which according to Mr. Assed Lusak could be improved.

In the study conducted by Mr. Assed Lusak in his dissertation, more than 20% of small businesses contribute to GDP with the beverage and food industry being designated as two of the five priority industry sectors. Mr. Assed Lusak conducted his studies in Greater Jakarta, Bali, Yogyakarta, Bandung Raya, Surakarta, and Semarang, regarding these sectors, and he stated that the viability of businesses in Indonesia is based on financial performance, service and product innovation, and operational improvement. According to Mr. Assed Lusak, in order for a business to run well, entrepreneurial motivation and sustainable improvement are needed.

The session of Mr. Assed Lusak was led by Prof. Dr. Ir. Harjanto Wibowo, M.M. as the chairman of the dissertation defense, Prof. Dr. Ir. Edi Abudachman, MS., M.Sc., as the promoter, Prof. Idris Gautama So, S.E., S.Kom., M.M., Ph.D. and Dr. Rini Setiowati, S.E., M.B.A., as co-promoters 1 and 2, as well as the promoters consisting of professors from Binus University, Prof. Dr. Adler Haymans Manurung, M.E., M.Comm., and Dr. Iwan Prijono Pontjowinoto.

With the graduation of Mr. Assed Lusak in the open session of the dissertation defense in the Doctor of Research in Management at BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL, it will serve to demonstrate that the Doctor of Research in Management is a high-quality doctoral level program.
