Top 5 Skills Global Employers Are Looking For

The 2022 edition of the QS World University Rankings: Global MBA has been officially released. To explain more about this biggest ranking of accredited international MBA programs globally, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) held a webinar with their Senior Research Manager, Andrew MacFarlane, as the host.
In addition to the results of the QS Global MBA Rankings 2022, Andrew also shared the QS Employer Insights Report 2020. This report details the top five skills global employers are looking for. These skills have always been important, but they are getting more crucial in terms of getting the right leaders into the industry.
So, based on the QS Employer Insights Report 2020, what are the top five skills global employers are looking for?
Communication
Global employers continue to list communication as one of the top skills they look for in new hires. It is because strong communication skills have always been and will continue to remain important. With good interpersonal and communication skills, candidates can develop into strong, effective leaders who are capable of inspiring others and keeping their team engaged.
Strong communication skills are most needed in times of crisis like the pandemic right now. The pandemic situation has made us pivot from mostly face-to-face interpersonal communication to online communication as our main mode of interaction. Without strong basic communication skills, it would be difficult for new hires to adapt well to such situations.
Problem-solving
These days, businesses are facing severe challenges in how they respond to the pandemic. This situation has encouraged them to look for creative, flexible, insightful, and data-driven senior leaders. Joining an MBA program is a fantastic way to boost those skills. Most MBA programs around the world, including BINUS Business School, provide opportunities for students to work in a real workplace environment so that they will have hands-on experience dealing with today’s work challenges.
Teamwork
Working is all about teamwork and collaboration. These two skills are necessary for jobs all across the spectrum. They play a significant part in keeping the company running smoothly. It is important to remember that every team member has a different skill they bring to the table. By collaborating, team members may reach a better solution than a person could on their own.
Flexibility
As we all have experienced, many businesses have to adjust to a new reality during this pandemic. Businesses are dynamic and that is why global employers are looking for flexibility in their new hires. This pandemic is only one of many crises that businesses have to face.
Being flexible means that you can adapt to and work around any unexpected changes of circumstances, be it a change in brief from a client, input of new information, or a change in business priorities. By being able to take a flexible approach to work situations, new hires already have what it takes to become good leaders.
Interpersonal Skills
It would be difficult for new hires to collaborate and work well together with co-workers if they did not have good interpersonal skills. However, interpersonal skills are not just about initiating a conversation. Conflict management, empathy, negotiation, and active listening are also included in interpersonal skills. Strong interpersonal skills will help new hires to adapt better in the work field.
With a tightening job market and complex challenges in today’s business world, new hires are expected to acquire those top five skills to stay relevant. Joining an MBA program like the one offered by BINUS Business School is a great way to boost those skills. Besides, by joining the Master Program in BINUS Business School, you will have the chance to participate in the Social Innovation Camp.
Working together with Teach for Indonesia as well as NGO and Social Enterprise partners, the Social Innovation Camp will help BINUS Business School students to cognitively embrace the skills related to empathy. This will help them to understand the complexities and the issues beyond the classrooms, which are crucial to boosting the top five skills needed by global employers these days. **(PID)
