Binus University International participates in UMKM Academy by Kimia Farma

In the last five years, the contribution of the MSME sector to gross domestic product (GDP) has continued to increase from 57% to 60%, while the employment of the MSME sector has also grown from 96% to 97%. Therefore, MSMEs are the backbone of the nation’s economy. However, the majority of MSME players in Indonesia are still considered conventional in running their business. Only 8% use digital technology and online platforms.

Corona Virus has also put pressure on the business world, including in the micro, small and medium enterprises (UMKM) sector. These business players admit that the current conditions are more difficult than the 1998 economic crisis and the 2008 global financial crisis. The MSMEs most affected by the spread of the Corona virus include the fashion, handicrafts, online transportation services, and culinary sectors. The impact that was felt most by MSME players was the drastic decrease in the number of sales and the significant increase in raw material prices. In the long term this will have a very bad impact on business actors. Therefore, the participation of all stakeholders in the nation’s economy is needed to help improve the competence and competitiveness of MSME players as a solution to the welfare of the people in Indonesia.

The UMKM Business Acceleration is an MSME empowerment program through increasing the competence and competitiveness of local business actors so that they can grow in crisis conditions. Engage mentors and business coaches from academia, experts, and business professionals. The UMKM Business Acceleration is a tangible form of Kimia Farma’s concern for community economic development.
