Jakarta- The annual National University Debating Championship’s regional competition, NUDC Kopertis, was held a while back in Mercu Buana University, West Jakarta. The competition was joined by more than fifty institutions allover Region 3 Jabodetabek area, making it one of the most competitive debate championship ever made. This year, BINUS UNIVERSITY INTERNATIONAL has the chance to participate, sending the representatives from the in-house competitive debate student club, BINUS INTERNATIONAL Pool of English Debaters (BIPEDS). Clarissa Nadya (IB 2019) and Levina (COMM 2019) was sent as debaters, whereas Shania Tsamara (IB 2020) participated as N1 adjudicator.

BINUS’ triumph in NUDC Kopertis has harvested many achievements. On the pre-eliminary day, they snatched #3 in overall team standing, with both debaters also achieved best speakers place of #4 and #5 respectively. Furthermore, Shania broke #1, making her having the highest score for N1 adjudicators. While BINUS also had advanced to the grand finals on the next day, they faced tough competitors from Universitas Indonesia, Atma Jaya, and Institut Pertanian Bogor. Under the grand finals motion of “This House Supports Jokowi’s Presidential Decree”, BINUS, acting as closing opposition managed to close the debate successfuly with snatching the first runner up title, only topped by rivalring Universitas Indonesia as the winner.

BINUS will later advance to the nationals, NUDC in Semarang for the upcoming 3rd-8th September, competing with other selected teams from all over Indonesia. Triumphing this competition will make a huge stepping stone for BINUS as they will have bigger opportunities to represent Indonesia in Worlds University Debating Championship later this year in Mexico City.
