Business case study

GOALS

Preparing for the type of discussions you will have with other group members throughout the learning module and understanding the benefits of being exposed to different points of view.

Identifying problems, presenting and discussing various points of view, and formulating suggestions for improvement.

A case study presents a real-life situation for participants to reflect on and discuss with other group members. Case studies allow students to develop new insights into how others would address challenges or pursue new opportunities.

Case study: review and respond

The following case study presents a situation that could happen in real-life. As a group, listen to one member read the case study below while following along in your learning module.
Carol is a fourth-year university student, majoring in both civil engineering and architecture. She is a hard-working and enthusiastic student.
Carol has become anxious about her life after finishing her degrees. She doesn’t know how to get the job that is right for her. She is unsure of what kind of job she will have, and how she will be able to combine her civil engineering and architectural skills.
Additionally, she is the oldest sister of her family and needs to consider supporting her two siblings by providing enough resources for them to finish high school and pursue higher education. Carol feels very uncertain and unclear about her future. What decision should she make?
Work as a group and discuss Carol’s situation. What can she do that would help her make a decision on whether or not she should change her job? Write down possible recommendations you would give to Carol.
