The 6th International Lecture Week, a platform for examining A.I. integration in business and education, marked an insightful session featuring Professor Andrew Delios from the National University of Singapore on October 16, 2024, at BINUS Alam Sutera Campus. Delving into the realm of “Understanding Digital Strategy in Asia,” Prof. Andrew, Vice Dean of the MSc Programs in NUS Business Program, expounded on the intricate intersection between strategy, digital technologies, and the regional dynamics of Southeast Asia.

A focal point of Prof. Andrew’s discourse centered on the philosophy of “Think Regionally, Act Locally.” This was articulated through three key pillars: local market knowledge, local market strategy, and local technology infrastructure, offering a framework vital for crafting robust business strategies. Notably, e-commerce exemplified this regional approach with platforms like Shopee employing standardized yet localized strategies. Shopee’s regional marketing campaigns for major sales events featured a uniform template across Southeast Asia. Still, they integrated diverse Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), influencers, and artists, crafting a message tailored to resonate with the distinctive local cultures and preferences.

Further enriching the discussion, Prof. Andrew addressed contemporary challenges, drawing attention to the significant cross-cultural divide prevailing over generations. To mitigate this, businesses have harnessed the power of local KOLs, influencers, and artists to promote their products and services, fueling a sense of homogeneity among consumers across Southeast Asia.

In conclusion, Professor Delios captivated the audience with a salient message underscoring the pivotal key to success in digital strategy—”Change but the Same.” Despite the fluidity of markets, technological advancements, and evolving consumer intellect, he emphasized the enduring relevance of core strategic concepts in steering firms toward triumph, underscoring their resilience in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
