Dissertation Summary

This study demonstrates that the sustainability of hospital business is strongly influenced by the combination of appropriate managerial strategies and organizational capabilities. In general, Inter-Hospital Coopetition Strategy (SKA), Dynamic Digital Capability (KDD), and Value-Based Service Orientation (OPN) are proven to have a positive and significant effect on business sustainability, both from quantitative and qualitative findings. This confirms that hospitals can no longer rely solely on competition, but must integrate strategic collaboration, adaptive digital transformation, and a value-based care approach that emphasizes patient outcomes.

On the other hand, Integrated Preventive Care (PPT) shows inconsistent results between quantitative and qualitative approaches in relation to business sustainability. However, PPT plays an important indirect role through the mediation of SKA. This implies that preventive services have not yet directly impacted hospital business performance, but can contribute significantly when integrated through collaborative strategies among hospitals. This finding indicates that optimizing preventive services still requires stronger implementation and appropriate business models to generate tangible economic value.

The mediating role of SKA emerges as one of the key findings of this study, particularly in strengthening the relationship between PPT and OPN with business sustainability. In contrast, the moderating role of Monopsonistic Government Insurance (APM) tends to be insignificant or even negative in quantitative analysis, although a weak positive influence is observed in qualitative findings. This inconsistency reflects the complexity of the relationship between healthcare financing policies (such as BPJS) and hospital business strategies, including the tension between cost efficiency and service profitability.

Overall, this study highlights the importance of integrating the perspectives of dynamic capability and competitive dynamics within the healthcare industry context. Hospitals need to develop adaptive, collaborative, and value-based strategies to ensure business sustainability amid rising cost pressures and regulatory challenges. Furthermore, strengthening digitalization, innovating preventive services, and establishing clear market positioning (BPJS vs. non-BPJS) are essential to achieving optimal economic, social, and environmental outcomes.
