Dissertation Examination of Emaridial Ulza
On Tuesday, 30 July 2024, a Dissertation Examination for a DRM student on behalf of Emaridial Ulza [2440127174] entitled “Antecedents and Consequences of Philanthropic Intention in Moderation of Pride of Affiliation” was held in in Anggrek Campus, R. 800, Bina Nusantara University.
The dissertation examination was led by Prof. Dr. Ir. Harjanto Prabowo, M.M. and attended by a team of promotors and examiners. There were three promotors in attendance with Prof. Dr. Engkos Achmad Kuncoro, S.E, M.M. as a Promotor, Dr. Asnan Furinto, S.T., M.M. as Co-Promotor 1, and Dr. Minsani Mariani, M.B.A as Co-Promotor 2. There were also examiners present, with Prof. Dr. Mts. Arief, M.M., MBA., CPM. as Examiner 1, Prof. Dr. Lim Sanny, S.T., M.M. as Examiner 2, and Prof. Dr. Ir. Raldi Artono Koestoer as Examiner 3.
DISSERTATION SUMMARY
This study specifically examines philanthropy in Indonesia through the lens of various theories, including Philanthropy Theory, Theory of Planned Behavior, Brand Theory, Social Identity Theory, and Need for Affiliations. These theories are expected to address the challenges in Indonesia’s philanthropic sector, which has not yet fully realized its potential, estimated at 200 trillion rupiah. The study identifies several key factors believed to enhance donors’ willingness to contribute to philanthropy through nonprofit organizations, including Key Opinion Leader, Word of Mouth, Philanthropic Brand Trust, Philanthropic Intention, Philanthropic Brand Preference, and Pride of Affiliation. The research was conducted with 382 respondents from across Indonesia, all of whom had previously donated. A quantitative approach was used, employing purposive sampling, and the data was analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM) via SmartPLS 3.0 and IBM SPSS 26. The findings indicate that Word of Mouth and Philanthropic Brand Trust are significant positive determinants of Philanthropic Intention, while Key Opinion Leader does not significantly influence Philanthropic Intention, nor is there any moderation between Philanthropic Intention and Philanthropic Brand Preference. These results highlight that the main strengths of nonprofit organizations lie in their reputation and the programs they offer.
BACKGROUND
Emaridial Ulza is a dreamer who holds his aspirations in high regard. In 2008, Emaridial moved to Jambi and enrolled at Jambi University, graduating in 2012 as the fastest student to complete his studies, earning a cum laude distinction while also working as a news anchor at PT. Jambi Ekspres Televisi (part of Jawa Pos Group) to support his education.
After obtaining his bachelor’s degree in management in 2012, he pursued further studies in Russia, receiving scholarships from the Russian Federation Government and LPDP Afirmasi in 2013. He first studied Russian at the National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University and continued with a master’s degree in management at the same university, graduating in 2016 with Honors and summa cum laude (krasniy diplom). He was awarded a gold medal as the best student of 2016 for his significant contributions to the university.
Currently, Emaridial is an active lecturer at Universitas Muhammadiyah Prof. Dr. Hamka, where he serves as the university’s secretary for the 2023–2027 term. In 2023, he was also a guest lecturer at Central Luzon State University in the Philippines. His professional career includes political and business consulting, and he owns Elang Rajawali Umar Ltd., a company engaged in philanthropic marketing. In addition, he is actively involved in the Central Board of Muhammadiyah as a member of the Council for Libraries and Information, Chairman of Foreign Relations for the Central Board of Muhammadiyah Youth, and Vice Chairman for Education and Human Resource Development at the Indonesian Lecturer Association’s Central Executive Board.
