INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY SERVICE: FROM LOCAL WISDOM TO GLOBAL MARKET
Every local product has a story. Behind the crispy and flavorful Kerepek Fazz lies the journey of a family business that began in 1983 and has continued to grow into one of the leading chip producers in Banting, Selangor, Malaysia. However, the journey toward reaching a broader market brings new challenges. Competition is becoming increasingly intense, consumers are increasingly drawn to products with a strong identity, while digital marketing and the need for more appealing packaging have become increasingly important.
This story became the starting point for an international community service initiative entitled “From Local Wisdom to Global Market: Marketing Strategies for Community-Based Local Products,” held on Friday, September 11, 2026. The DRM BINUS University team, together with the School of Business & Economics, Universiti Putra Malaysia, and the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Brawijaya, visited Kerepek Fazz to learn directly from the business’s journey while sharing perspectives and insights.

The activity began with a visit to the production facility, providing the team with an opportunity to observe firsthand how local products are made. The visit then continued with a business consultation session with Mr. Fazzly Mahmudin, the representative of Kerepek Fazz, who shared the story of Kerepek Fazz’s development, the challenges faced by the business, as well as its aspirations to expand into broader markets through supermarkets and souvenir centers.
The discussion then evolved into an exchange of ideas on branding, packaging design, and digital marketing strategies. From one local business emerged a broader conversation about global opportunities.
