Roadmap to Attain Doctorate Degree
To obtain a Doctor of Research in Management degree at BINUS Business School, students must undergo a 6-semester education, during which students will go through a series of processes and progress.
It all begins with preparing for admission into the DRM program. Once enrolled, right from the very first semester, students immediately start research preparation, where they focus on exploratory research topics to lay the groundwork for their research journey. Then, in the second semester, they are expected to formulate a research proposal and the development of an initial dissertation.
The journey continues into the third semester, where students refine their research proposal in order to secure approval. Before approval and during refine the research proposal, all students will be assisted through the supervisory plenary forum process, which is discussed with the complete promoter team. This is a process that only exists in DRM BBS. With approval in hand, the fourth semester starts the research process with data collection and initial analysis and concludes with a Research Results Seminar where students present their preliminary findings.
In the fifth semester, students further refine their research by conducting a more in-depth data analysis and formulating the discussion. By the end of the semester, students are expected to be ready for a closed examination, where they stand as defenders of their research methodology and results.
The final semester brings an opportunity for refinement and implementation of feedback provided by the board of examiners. As the ultimate step in this journey, students face an open examination or promotion. It is at this point that they will claim the prestigious title of DRM doctor.
What Will You Learn?
During their exciting journey to attain a doctorate, students will take on 42 credit hours, which is a blend of lectures, proposal crafting, hands-on research, dissertation crafting, and the finale of defending their dissertation and earning their well-deserved title. The curriculum has been meticulously designed to assist and support students in progressing toward their doctorate.
The courses studied in the initial semesters include Philosophy of Science, Advanced Research Methodology and Dissertation Writing, Theory of Advanced Management, and Exploratory Research Topics. As the second semester rolls around, students participate in seminars exploring innovation, knowledge, and technology. They also tackle courses in digital analytics in business and immerse themselves in the core theories of their chosen concentration. These early courses prepare students to take on the task of their preliminary dissertation by the semester’s end.
It doesn’t stop there. There are workshops, internal colloquia, and international conferences that encourage deeper insights and broader horizons. And it’s not just about learning; it’s about sharing knowledge, too. Students are expected to become speakers at international conferences and write at least 2 papers for internationally renowned Scopus-indexed journals.
Are You Qualified?
The Doctorate in Research Management at BINUS Business School is a program that includes online and onsite courses. It’s crucial to understand the format of the course so that you can decide whether you have what it takes to complete the program.
First and foremost, the Odd Semester of 2023/2024 is designated as onsite. This means that students are expected to physically attend classes. The specific requirement is to achieve a minimum of 75% attendance. This translates to a maximum of three allowed absences for each course.
Speaking of attendance, onsite classes are held on Saturdays, running from 09:00 to 16:00. It’s a full-day commitment, so students should plan their schedules accordingly for these onsite sessions. Meanwhile, online classes are conducted every Wednesday from 18:30 to 21:00.
To streamline attendance monitoring and ensure fairness, the university utilizes BINUSMAYA to keep an accurate record of students’ attendance, making it easier for everyone involved.
Further, students’ comprehension of course material will be assessed in Final Exams (UAS), although for specific classes, there is an alternative evaluation method available—submitting a research paper. To successfully pass a course, students should aim for a minimum grade of B (pass). Any grade below B is considered a failing grade, indicating the need for further improvement.
