Business Case Writing Competition

A business case writing competition is a structured academic and professional platform where participants are challenged to write business cases based on real-world business situations. It simulates the role of decision-makers in organizations, requiring participants to think critically, act under uncertainty, and justify their recommendations in a competitive and time-constrained environment. Unlike traditional academic assessments, business case writing competitions focus on open-ended and ambiguous problems. Participants need to present the written case in such an incomplete information, presenting core issues in ambiguous manners, showing alternatives, and information that allows the reader to formulate strategies that are both innovative and feasible in real business contexts.

BINUS Business School Leadership in Case-Based Learning

At BINUS Business School Center for Case Study, business case competitions are part of a broader commitment to case-based learning excellence.

BINUS Business School stands as one of the pioneers in Indonesia in adopting the case method as a core teaching approach. Since 2007, BINUS has consistently integrated case studies into its teaching and learning processes, positioning itself ahead of many institutions in applying experiential and practice-oriented education.

This long-standing commitment has resulted in:

  • The development of a strong internal ecosystem of case writers and educators
  • Continuous integration of real Indonesian business contexts into classroom learning
  • The cultivation of graduates who are analytical, decision-oriented, and industry-ready

The Role of the Case Method

At the core of business case competitions is the case method, a globally recognized pedagogical approach widely adopted by leading business schools.

The case method:

  • Presents real or realistic business scenarios with a clear decision point
  • Encourages active discussion, debate, and multiple perspectives
  • Develops practical, experience-based learning
  • Bridges the gap between theoretical frameworks and real-world application

Participants are placed in the position of managers, consultants, or entrepreneurs, where they must make decisions despite uncertainty—mirroring real business environments. This method ensures that learning is not only conceptual but also highly applicable and impactful.

Bridging Case Solving and Case Writing

Globally, leading institutions emphasize not only solving cases but also developing original teaching cases. High-quality cases are essential for effective management education and are widely used in classrooms, executive training, and research.

By combining case solving competitions with case writing initiatives, BINUS Business School Center for Case Study aims to:

  • Position Indonesia as a source of globally relevant business cases
  • Encourage collaboration between academics, students, and industry practitioners
  • Enhance the quality of teaching and learning materials
  • Strengthen BINUS’s reputation as a regional hub for case-based education
