There are some digital currencies that are quite popular. The first is Linden Dollars. Linden Dollars is the currency in the 3-dimensional virtual world game Second Life, which even has its own economy. Linden Dollar is commonly used to pay for transactions in SecondLife, i.e. transactions of goods such as buying land or furniture, or transactions paying for services such as workers’ wages, entertainment, or custom content creation. Linden Dollar itself can be purchased on the Second Life website.

It is the currency in the game world. Like the Linden Dollar ex mentioned earlier, there are many more currencies used in the game world. Most massively multiplayer online games  (MMOG) have their own currency. Examples are FarmVille with Farm Cash currency, Habbo (formerly Habbo Hotel) with Habbo Coins, Whyville with Pearls, and World of Warcraft (WOW) with WOW Gold. Virtual currency in this game can be used to buy goods or services in the game. Money in this game is usually purchased with real money.

One of the digital currencies discussed is Bitcoin. Bitcoin is a virtual currency that is designed for anonymous payments that are in full made independently from government to bank. In recent years, Bitcoin has attracted attention in several fields. Bitcoin itself has the advantage of cheaper cost, speed, and anonymity. However, Bitcoin itself has risks because it is not directly protected by the law that controls the mediation of other payments.
