Definitions of e-business based on Papazoglou and Ribbers (2006)
Papazoglou and Ribbers (2006) Define “E-business can be defined as the automated management of business transactions over electronic communication networks (e.g. Internet and/or personal networking) end to end ” E-business can describe companies operating in the ICT manufacturing sector as well as emerging sectors and industries such as in the field of digital content. However, on a more fundamental level, the term e-business also describes the application of ICT in business processes across all sectors of the economy to lower costs, add value to customers, and find new outlets for products and services. Electronic business methods allow companies to more effectively and flexibly connect their internal and external data processing systems, work more closely with suppliers and partners, and better meet customer needs and expectations. E-business refers to a more strategic focus, with an emphasis on functions that occur using electronic capabilities. (Yen-Yi, 2006). In this study, as already mentioned, we will use e-business to describe all exchanges of goods, services and electronic information. E-business according to Steven Alter (Information System: Foundation of E-Business. Prentice Hall.2002) is the practice of implementing and managing key business processes such as product design, raw material supply management, manufacturing, sales, order fulfilment, and service provision through the use of computer communication technology and computerized data. In other words, e-Business is the activity of running and managing a business through electronic media for profit. In implementing e-business, there are several concepts/strategies that can be applied by the company, including the following: ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) is a business strategy of the company’s information system that can be used to coordinate the resources and information used for the process in doing business. EAI (Enterprise Application Programs) is a business strategy to interpret the concept of integration of business processes that allow companies to exchange information. CRM (Customer Relationship Management) is a business strategy of services and software (software) designed to increase consumer profits and satisfaction. SCM (Supply Chain Management) is a management strategy regarding the supply chain that will automatically be computerized. The benefits of implementing E-business are as follows: • Improve the performance of the company’s operations • Increase opportunities for access to the market, suppliers and very wide funding • Increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the company • Facilitate in the management of the company’s assets • Improve service to customers to continue to be quality • Improve the communication of all stakeholders • Overcome all digital gaps • Utilize the media to promote competence Company • Facilitates the process of business transactions • Is one of the means of widespread dissemination of information through the internet As one of the companies engaged in information technology specializing in the field of training, PT.
