Business Intelligence and Data Analysis

Quoted from forbes.com in an article entitled “Business Intelligence: Salesforce.com’s Next Big Acquisition” (Woods, 2011) expressed his opinion about the vision of Marc Benioff as the founder of salesforce.com. (Woods, 2011) predicts that the next big acquisitions from salesforce.com will be in the area of business intelligence and data analysis software. Salesforce.com’s move was to buy QlikTech, the maker of QlikView, or TIBCO Spotfire, two products with advanced capabilities for exploring and visualizing data. Salesforce does little to help companies with reporting and data visualization. (Woods, 2011) argues that Salesforce’s reporting capabilities are rather prosaic. Putting together information in Salesforce is not an easy thing to do. He therefore suspects that Salesforce’s next big step is to acquire data analysis and visualization products.

The business environment is becoming more competitive, so that information advantage is gaining a rising importance. Consequently, the utilization of business intelligence (BI) to support decision-making is becoming a popular topic of research (Xia & Gong, 2014). Xia and Gong conducted a research article with a title; Review of Business Intelligence Through Data Analysis. The research aims to explore the role of business intelligence (BI) in a consulting company. Based on a large sample of qualitative data, cost-and-benefit analysis is used to assess the BI technologies as a strategic necessity to Florilla Consulting Company. Findings classify the best processes and tools of data analysis under different business scenarios. The authors also propose a revised process and tools for Florilla Consulting Company to be further evaluated by future research. Practical
