Before we start making any dalgona coffee, let us find out more of this coffee’s origin. So the term of dalgona coffee comes from an actor Jung Il-woo where he recreate the beaten coffee or whipped coffee that he tried at Macau. Which he then nicknamed it after a Korean candy that have a sweet caramel flavor and a lightly crunchy, but also melt-in-your-mouth texture called “Dalgona”. Ever since then this dalgona coffee have been trending in all social media through out the world suring this Covid-19 pandemic.

Making dalgona coffee is not a very difficult task the ingredients that you will need are instant coffee, sugar, hot water, and milk.

First, you must mix instant coffee, sugar and hot water with the ratio of 1:1:1. Which means if you  put 2 tablespoon of instant coffee the you must also put 2 table spoon of sugar and water in the mixing bowl too.

The next step, I would recommend using an electric mixer to mix all of the ingredients so that it could form a meringue or whipping cream kind of foamy or cloudy texture. But if you do not have an electric mixer using a whisk is still okay. It just that you will have to beat the mixture up to 400 timer and more so that the “dalgona” could form.

Tips: having a big bowl filled with ice and place under the bowl that is used to make dalgona will help making the foam a lot faster.

The last step is to put ¾ of milk in a glass and put some ice cube. And finally use a small ladle or a spoon or an ice cream scooper to put the dalgona coffee on top of the milk. And here you go your own dalgona coffee is ready to serve.

Not a huge fan of coffee? If so, I would recommend you try making this matcha dalgona that will taste extra fancy to taste but still very easy to make.

The ingredients that you will need is matcha powder, sugar, whipping cream, vanilla extract, and lastly milk. So why do you need the whipping cream? Well here is the thing the reason why the instant coffee do not need any whipping cream is because coffee after being roasted have a stabilizing agent that when combine with sugar it will foam up after being beaten couple hundreds of times and sadly, matcha is only a tea powder that will not foam at all. So we will need the help of whipping cream to help create that foamy / cloudy texture.

First, you must mix 1/4 cup of whipping cream, 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and 2 teaspoons of sugar. You will need to beat it until you see a kind of frothy foam.

Tips: you need to make sure that the whipping cream is cold so tahtit will be easier to foam or you could put a big bowl filled with ice and place under the whipping cream bowl to make sure that it will always be cold.

Next step, after the whipping cream and other ingredients are starting to froth and foam you can add in the 2 teaspoons of matcha and beat it till it have that foamy and cloudy texture that you are looking for in a dalgona coffee.

And lastly, put ¾ of milk in a glass and put some ice cube. And finally use a small ladle or a spoon or an ice cream scooper to put the matcha dalgona on top of the milk. And here you go your own matcha dalgona is ready to serve
