Guest Lecture Highlights Sustainable Digital Business in Practice
The Digital Business Program recently hosted a guest lecture on Sustainable Digital Business, bringing real world perspective into the classroom. The session was delivered by Dr. Amalia Yunita and attended by students from the Digital Business program. The lecture took place in December 2025 and focused on how sustainability principles can be applied in digital driven business models.
During the session, students were introduced to the core idea of sustainability as meeting today’s needs without limiting future generations. Dr. Amalia explained how sustainable business goes beyond profit and includes responsibility toward society and the environment. She discussed the Triple Bottom Line approach, which balances people, planet, and profit, and showed how this framework helps companies grow responsibly while remaining competitive.
The lecture also explored the role of digital business in sustainability. While digital platforms are often seen as asset light and environmentally friendly, the discussion highlighted real challenges such as high energy consumption in data centers, electronic waste, data privacy, and inequality in the platform economy. Students learned that sustainable digital business means using technology to create economic value while also generating social and environmental benefits through ethical governance.
Several practical examples were shared to make the topic concrete. These included green hosting powered by renewable energy, paperless digitalization through online systems and digital signatures, sustainable e commerce that supports local sellers, and educational digital content that raises awareness about environmental and social issues. The importance of partnerships and avoiding greenwashing was also emphasized, especially as regulations such as digital product passports continue to develop.
The session gave students a clearer understanding that sustainability is not an add on, but a strategic part of modern digital business. Through this guest lecture, the Digital Business Program reinforced its commitment to preparing students to design and manage digital businesses that are innovative, responsible, and relevant to long term global challenges.
