On this occasion, Dr. Krisna shared her experience on how NVivo can assist writers in data management. NVivo is a paid software specifically designed to assist researchers in processing and analyzing qualitative data systematically and effectively. With NVivo, researchers can store various types of data, ranging from text, audio, video, to document formats like Word and PDF, which are then analyzed using coding methods to identify relevant patterns and themes within the data. NVivo facilitates the management of complex research data through visualization features, code organization, and advanced analytical tools.

The presented NVivo training comprehensively covers how to use this software practically, starting from inputting primary and secondary data, including interview results, focus group discussions, up to literature reviews. The training also discusses various types of qualitative and mixed-method research designs that NVivo can support, such as content analysis, thematic analysis, discourse analysis, as well as scoping and systematic reviews in literature reviews.

One of NVivo’s main advantages is its ability to perform qualitative data coding inductively and deductively. Coding consists of several stages, such as open coding to identify basic concepts, axial coding to connect categories, and selective coding to develop theories or core research themes. This process helps researchers build a clear and consistent hierarchy of themes and sub-themes, enhancing the validity and reliability of research findings.

Moreover, NVivo provides additional features like memos, framework matrices, and file classifications that support data management and analysis documentation. The software allows integration with reference managers such as Mendeley and EndNote for bibliography management and offers AI-based transcription services, although support for the Indonesian language is not yet fully available.

The training also explains NVivo’s limitations, for example, its inability to capture screens directly from browsers, annotate files directly, and some collaboration features that require additional services. However, visualization features like word clouds, maps, and code queries help researchers gain a clearer and deeper understanding of the analyzed data.

With the knowledge and skills gained from this NVivo training, researchers can improve the efficiency and quality of their qualitative data analysis, supporting more valid and comprehensive scientific research. This training also provides examples of actual research using NVivo, ranging from post-disaster studies to social behavior research, enabling participants to apply their knowledge directly in various research contexts.

Thus, NVivo becomes an essential tool for qualitative researchers who want to conduct in-depth data analysis supported by reliable and trusted technology.
