An Industrial Visit & Career Prospect in Finance Seminar by Rheza Andhika Pamungkas and Andri Muharizal (20 May 2021)

“Industrial Visit & Career Prospect in Finance” was a webinar conducted by Accounting BINUS in collaboration with MNC Sekuritas on 20 May 2021. This event invited two speakers which are Rheza Andhika Pamungkas as the Region III Management Staff of PT Bursa Efek Indonesia and Andri Muharizal as the Head of Investment Gallery of MNC Sekuritas. The general idea of this webinar is to provide industrial insights in finance as it was claimed demanded by students in the current era in order to gain deeper understanding the importance of this industry aside from the theory explained in the class. The webinar also includes the career prospect for students consideration in entering the field.

The discussion initially began by Mr. Rheza explaining the IDX market update in 2021 to socialized the economic issues faced globally and domestically, especially since trade war between US and China, the continuous war between Israel and Palestine, and pandemic occurred. As he claimed, even though Indonesia has facing economic downturn, Indonesia generally still holding positive conditions and slowly regaining the position during pandemic recovery. The trend has brought a bigger prospect for finance career specifically in the capital market, and here Mr. Rheza explained the Indonesia capital market structure and how certification is highly requested to increase the work acceptance in the capital market. The speaker mentioned some of certifications to obtain from TICMI (The Indonesian Capital Market Institute), including WPPE (Wakil Perantara Pedagang Efek), WPEE (Wakil Penjamin Emisi Efek), WMI (Wakil Manager Investasi), ASPM (Ahli Syariah Pasar Modal), and many others which can be seen on the IDX/TICMI website.

Followed by Mr. Andri, he explained that Indonesia capital market is known as world investment paradise and has wide range of job opportunities, especially in MNC Sekuritas. Started in 1989, MNC Sekuritas is one best company to work for in securities company as they have achieved many recognition and awards through years of operation. These makes MNC Sekuritas the right place for students to pursue career in the finance industry. In this respect, Mr. Andri explained several career prospect in securities company including Equity/Debt Sales, Dealer/Debt Trader, Marketing, Research Analyst, Investment Banker, Legal & Compliance, Accounting, Settlement & Finance, HR & GA, IT (Development, Operation and Infrastructure), Customer Service, MarComm & CorComm, and Digital Marketing. He also added that the rise of IHSG in 2020 accounted for 58.4% supporting the fact that capital market career provided big opportunity to chase and students can start by investing.

To sum up, this webinar provides the general capital market knowledge in details which we do not learn in the class, and also gives interesting insights about career prospect in finance following the economic situations in Indonesia affected by pandemic and other global issues. From this webinar, it enhanced our knowledge about how the capital market works and what products/services they are offering and also what kind of certifications required to work in the industry and where to obtain, so we can be completely prepared before diving into one of the brightest career prospect of finance in Indonesia, which is the capital market.
