BINUS Team Wins Big at MAKARAPRENEUR National Business Plan Competition 2025

What a moment for BINUS University! Team Hydrolux just took home 1st place and the Best Presentation Award at the MAKARAPRENEUR National Business Plan Competition 2025, hosted by HIPMI Universitas Indonesia. Competing with teams from all over the country, they stood out with a business idea that’s smart, meaningful, and deeply relevant.
Their product, Hydrolux, is a simple but powerful solution: a portable light powered by seawater or even urine, designed for people in remote areas with little or no access to electricity.
It’s especially made for:
- Fishermen who still rely on expensive kerosene lamps
- Disaster survivors who need emergency lighting
- Adventurers and backpackers looking for eco-friendly gear
Hydrolux can shine for up to 45 days without batteries or electricity. Just add water — literally. The team brought real numbers and a strong plan:
- Target market in Year 1: 66,500 people
- Product price: Rp 84,000 (Essential Kit) & Rp 124,000 (Pro Kit)
- Estimated 5-year revenue: up to Rp 3.92 billion
- Break-even point: Year 4
- Net profit margin: 16.67%
They’re also planning to sell Hydrolux through e-commerce platforms like Shopee and Tokopedia, outdoor stores like Eiger and Decathlon, and partnerships with NGOs working in disaster response and rural development.
