In a company, every employee does hope that his/her career will keep ascending. It’s not easy to go to the peak; instead, career acceleration needs hard works. Responding to that matter, BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL (BBS) shares the tips to accelerate your career in the seminar “How to Accelerate Your Career: Lessons Learnt from Indonesia’s CEO and Middle Managers” presented by Firdaus Alamsjah, Ph.D, the Executive Dean and Provost.

“There are four ways to accelerate your career: building networking, education, business management skills, and people skills and leadership,” explained Firdaus Alamsjah, Ph.D. He believed that those four would be essential to bring someone to a higher place in career. Based on his data, a job gotten from a friend was in the first rank at 39.96%. That means job offers mostly come from friends, and building networking is crucial in career development. Furthermore, he gave some examples of graduates who received promotions after graduating from Master’s degree at BBS.

From the side of management skills, he added that BBS graduates are guaranteed. Every lesson given at the campus is applicable in the real world, for example, strategic thinking, leadership skills, consumer-oriented marketing, and financial perspective. Throughout studying at BBS, students learn all of those.

In addition to that, Firdaus pointed out that personal and leadership skills should be learned since an early age. Quoting from John Maxwell’s five steps of leadership, it is important to make a branding, continued with building a relationship. After having a strong networking, we could see the result of the career building. Next is succession which leads to a leader influences his/her subordinates.

Firdaus furthermore said that to accelerate our career, we should learn from world-class leaders. BBS provides this facility through the program CEO Speaks. Up until now, CEO Speaks has presented many qualified leaders such as Chairul Tanjung, Teddy P Rachmat, Prijono Sugiarto, Martha Tilaar, and Ignasius Jonan.

In the end of the seminar, there was info session about study programs at BBS (Creative Marketing and Business Management). Hosted by Rini Setiowati, SE, MBA and Minsani Mariani, the session involves final-semester students. Creative Marketing program deals with a practical marketing which appreciates creativities and innovations as the core of marketing. Meanwhile, Business Management focuses on various situations and challenges faced on daily basis in business, together with the strategies, processes, and practical applications to meet the stakeholders’ needs.
