In a company, every employee hopes that their career will keep ascending. It is not easy to reach the peak; instead, career acceleration needs hard work. Responding to that matter, BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL (BBS) shared tips to accelerate your career in the seminar ?How to Accelerate Your Career: Lessons Learnt from Indonesia?s CEOs and Middle Managers? presented by Firdaus Alamsjah, Ph.D, the Executive Dean and Provost.
?There are four ways to accelerate your career: building networking, education, business management skills, and people skills and leadership,? explained Firdaus Alamsjah, Ph.D. He believes that those four elements are essential to bring someone to a higher place in their career. Based on his data, a job gotten from an associate was first ranked at 39.96%, and building networking is crucial in career development. Furthermore, he gave some examples of graduates who received promotions after graduating from Master?s degrees at BBS.
From the side of management skills, he said that BBS graduates are well-placed educationally. Every lesson given at the campus is applicable in the real world, for example, strategic thinking, leadership skills, consumer-oriented marketing, and financial perspectives.
In addition to that, Firdaus pointed out that personal and leadership skills should be learned at an early age. Quoting from John Maxwell?s five steps of leadership, it is important to make a branding, continuing with building relationships. After establishing a strong network, we can see the results of career building. Next is succession which leads to a leader influencing their subordinates.
Firdaus said that to accelerate our career, we should learn from world-class leaders. BBS provides this facility through the program CEO Speaks, which has presented many qualified leaders such as Chairul Tanjung, Teddy P Rachmat, Prijono Sugiarto, Martha Tilaar, and Ignasius Jonan.
At the end of the seminar, there was info session about study programs at BBS (Creative Marketing and Business Management). Hosted by Rini Setiowati, SE, MBA and Minsani Mariani, the session involved final-semester students. The Creative Marketing program deals with practical marketing which appreciates creativity and innovation at the core of marketing. Meanwhile, Business Management focuses on various situations and challenges faced on a daily basis in business, together with the strategies, processes, and practical applications to meet stakeholders? needs.
