In Indonesia, accountancy has developed to incorporate sustainability issues and reporting. A similar phenomenon is happening in many countries, such as Britain, Spain, Belgium, Denmark, South Africa and Malaysia. Indonesian laws require systematic, sustainable activities and reporting.
Responding to this development, Bina Nusantara University, through its Research and Development Division has established a research group, named the Corporate Governance and Sustainability Research Interest Group. The group is working together with the School of Accounting & Finance of BINUS INTERNATIONAL with the funding from the EFMD EPAS accreditation project, and with Dr. Yara Cintra joining the group as a visiting professor.
Dr. Yara Cintra is an academic from University Federal of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) in Brazil. As reported in QS World University Ranking, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro is one of Brazil’s best universities of 2013. The university is also known as the oldest university in Brazil.
Dr. Yara shared some of her vast knowledge of research study in a seminar titled: ‘Knowledge Sharing: Research in Sustainability’ on January 20 at JWC. Dr. Yara introduced the meaning of sustainability and discussed various sustainable researches in management, accounting and information systems.
The event was attended by academics from different disciplines, and students from different departments. It is hoped that this seminar will help BINUS INTERNATIONAL academics to develop their knowledge at the local and international levels. (KF)
