Indonesia is Ready to Inspire the Main Future Income Generator
The ITTA Foundation proudly presents the 4th Indonesia Travel and Tourism Award 2013/2014. The Gala Dinner was held on Monday, December 16, 2013. ITTA is the only non-government and non-media related award given to the best players in the travel and tourism industry. Over 125 brands competed to be the best in this event.
The event is held to motivate the players in the travel and tourism industry in providing continuous and qualified services which are very important to increase the country’s income from the tourism sector. When it comes to income, travel and tourism industry is ranked second, with 10 billion US dollars, after the mining and energy industry. Therefore, it’s really important for the players in travel and tourism industry to maintain the quality and prove that they are the best when it comes to hospitality services.
Three methods were used in determining the winners. One of them was voting on Facebook, which was held in October for 15 days and managed to gather around 25 thousand votes from Indonesia as well as neighbouring countries. Then the advisory board had to give their personal opinion regarding the nominees. The results were then sent to BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL to be researched and verified.
Advisory board members who were acting as the judges are Arief Gunawan (President and CEO Sevenfold Asia), Leslie Choudury (CEO Dreamz Image International), Trence T Lee (Chief Operating Officer PT Rudy Indopratama Sejahtera), Indira Abidin (Managing Director Fortune PR), J.L. Nawan (Senior Partner L&I Communication), Daniel Surya (Vice Chairman of Indonesian Heritage Society), Benny Nainggolan (Managing Director Jakarta Executive Search) and Gunawan (Managing Director Dream Communication) as well as a number of other judges.
“The ITTA Foundation wants to contribute to the Indonesian tourism industry. This is a positive sign for the winners, which means the triumph of employees and customers. To ensure our independence, the judging process was done in four steps starting with online voting (25%) and advisory board voting (50%) which consists of leaders and experts in the business sector, and evaluation from BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL (25%),” explained Panca Sarungu, the President of ITTA Foundation.
When INNOVATION met Indira Abidin, a public relations expert who is also the CEO of Fortune PR and one of the event’s judges, she said that ITTA is needed by the country to introduce Indonesian tourism to other countries. According to Indira, the public has begun to value and be familiar with Indonesia. “The nominees are senior players in the industry, therefore this selection process is a challenge for the judges, to pick the best from well-known players in the Indonesian travel and tourism industry,” she said.
Executive Dean BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL, Firdaus Alamsjah, Ph.D, added that BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL helped the ITTA foundation by providing a step and tool to evaluate hotels’ competence though its quality and innovation in their service. “We evaluate them through comprehensive understanding on the nominees’ quality. The next step is collecting the voting result and starting the research. Then online voting is generated to gather the nominated brands. Afterwards, the advisory board, which is also acting as judges, certifies the nominees,” explained Firdaus.
Advisory board member from Singapore, N Gunalan, who is also the Managing Director of Dream Communication, believed that the travel and tourism industry players are the heroes in the raising of national income. Besides, he also thought that companies play a huge role in helping income grow as well as opening job opportunities. Hopefully, awards like ITTA can inspire young Indonesians to choose the travel and tourism industry as their career. (Karunia Fransiska)
