“The right culture was born in nature, simple, modest and pure.” This quote from the writer of The One – Straw Revolution Masanobu Fukuoka reflected the enthusiasm of the participants at the welcoming ceremony of new students at BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL.
The event which was packed into two events, outbound activities and seminar, was held for two days and one night, starting from April 27th to 28th 2013 in LIDO, Puncak. During the event, the participants, the new students at BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL, were given insight about the meaning and purpose of leadership. It is expected that BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL’s graduates will become wise leaders wherever they will be.
The event, that is held three times in a year, was started with outbound activities that were made up of interesting games which involved the nature. The participants’ expression was nervous. They were grouped with people who were total strangers for them. But along with the flowing of the games, laughter filled the venue. The ice had been broken. The participants were becoming a unit.
At the height of the game, every group was given a task to build a raft using the materials that had been provided by the facilitators from LIDO. The raft that they had to build must be sturdy enough because that raft would become their only transportation medium to take them back safely to the hotel. The participants were given the freedom to determine the shape and formation of the raft. The expectation was that the participants would be able to explain their imagination well in their groups.
The following day, the participants were given a lesson in leadership. When yesterday they got a lesson in leadership through the values incorporated in the games, it was different this time. The participants were given a direction to expand their views on leadership in successful public figures who got successful without underwent any form of formal education. This was summarised in a workshop under a topic of: “Leadership, Success and ??? through Emotional Intelligence Workshop.”
Take Yovie Widyanto for instance. The composer and song writer who has produced many brilliant masterpieces only got a bachelor degree. He wasn’t as lucky as the participants who got a Master’s degree. It was expected that this sample would become a reference for the participants so they would be able to show their talents better.
After the workshop on leadership, there was the top event which was also the closing event of BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL’s welcoming ceremony of the new students. Kevin, a student from Business Management was officially anointed as the student president and was trusted to become the representative of every BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL’s students in any activities.
“This event is trying to strengthen the bond between people, who didn’t know each other before but then grew closer. Not only that, it’s also trying to increase the sense of leadership in every participant. We hope in the future the participants will become a BINUSIAN who is capable of becoming a wise leader where ever they will be,” said Denny Lesmana, Academic Operation Coordinator of BBS.
